Born and raised in South Lake Tahoe I started working in the Food and Beverage industry at age 16. Harvey's Casino Resort was my home and I worked there through high school and college helping to pay my way towards a degree is Business and Marketing from Chico State University. After graduating from College I returned to Tahoe and continued to work in the Hotel and Food and Beverage industry helping to open the Tahoe Seasons Resort and the Ridge Tahoe Resort in the early 80’s.
Eventually I made my way back to Harvey's and worked in their Banquet Department as a Banquet Captain until I joined TurZak, Inc, the Food and Beverage management company that opened the Embassy Suites Resort in 1991. I spent nine years with Turzak working as the assistant to the Food and Beverage Manager, Banquet Manager and eventually the Director of Catering.
I also met my wonderful husband while at Embassy Suites. I left Embassy Suites in 2001 when the company sold to Hilton.
After having my 3rd child, and then a three year gig at the Horizon Casino Resort as the Director of Catering in 2003 we found our way down to the Carson Valley. I first spent 2 years at David Walley's Resort before Genoa Lakes Golf Club sought me out to run their two resorts. From 2005 to 2012 I was proud to lead a fabulous team and really put the wedding and events business for the property at the forefront in
the Carson Valley. Due to ownership change, I then went back to David Walley’s where I spent the last six and half years bringing that resort to great success. New Ownership, once again, caused me to rethink my position at Walley’s, and I decided to leave.
I will always cherish my time spent at that lovely resort, but it was time to move on. Throughout my time at David Walley’s and Genoa Lakes I served 3 terms on the Carson Valley Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors as well as served as the President of Weddings of the West for a total of 10 years. I am grateful for all of the business relationships that I have developed during this time and the friendships that I made.
Now I am working on building my own event business, Just Ask Marie Weddings and Events. With over 36 years experience in the Food and Beverage and Events Business, 15 of which have been heavily focused on Weddings, I think this will be a good fit for me. I am confident that I can walk into any setting and be able to draw from my years of experience to create and execute events that will exceed my clients expectations. I also like the idea of having more control over my life and hope this will open some new creative avenues for me while allowing me to also have more flexibility and more quality time with my family. I appreciate all of your support and encouragement as my business develops and grows and and hope that when you hear of someone needing a quality event planner you will think of me.
